A Ceremony Unlike Any Other
A Masquerade Wedding at The Opera Populaire is an already unforgettable occasion — but for those who wish to go further, something truly singular awaits. Not only can they make their vows in the glow of the world-famous chandelier — they can have Madame Giry, Ballet Mistress of the Opera Populaire, guard them and guide them through every moment of the ceremony as Officiant.
Madame Giry — known as Satomi Hofmann when not called upon by The O.G. — is licensed to perform wedding ceremonies through The Universal Life Church.
An Immersive Beginning
The experience can begin before the wedding day itself — with an email bearing an invitation that carries the Opera Ghost's wish to bestow His blessing, sending Madame Giry to ensure the ceremony proceeds according to His exacting demands.
Upon accepting His invitation, couples will be invited to complete a curated set of questions or participate in a virtual intake interview — whichever best suits their preference — so that every element of the ceremony may be tailored to them with precision. For those who wish the immersion to begin at once, this interview may be conducted entirely in character.
Satomi will draw upon her intimate knowledge of the production language and lore for a seamless experience.
The Masquerade Ceremony
All elements are rendered in full Masquerade style. The ceremony currently includes:
- Mme Giry's call to order and reading of a welcome letter from the Opera Ghost
- A personalized story about the bride and groom
- A short sermon on a theme of love and marriage, geared towards the couple's values
- Guidance on the importance of being present and witnessing, addressed to guests
- The Vows
- Ring exchange
- Pronouncement
- Introduction of the happy couple
- Optional: Guide to the Backstage Set for top of show

Standard officiant services run $300–$800; however for themed weddings, rates reach $1,500 or more. This offering could fall squarely in the "or more" category — and a conversation regarding apportionment of that fee is welcomed.
As the originator of the Madame Giry as Officiant concept, I ask that I be offered first refusal for all Officiant Services at The Opera Populaire (Masquerade NYC).
